Reclaiming NT Prophecy
A Letter to the Charismatic Church
I wrote this paper from inside the charismatic movement out of a heavy but hopeful heart. Recently, we have watched high-profile prophetic ministries fracture under public scrutiny, leaving behind a trail of disillusionment, broken trust, and life-altering decisions based on manufactured words.
I have been wanting to write something like this since about 2017 to address this systemic crisis. It is an honest, provocative look at a church culture that has accidentally industrialized a spiritual grace—prioritizing raw platform performance over communal accountability, and leaving a dangerous vacuum of true discernment.
The Core Paradox We Face
In the text, I unpack a strange, paralyzing tension currently playing out in our communities:
The Intermediary Crisis: We have inadvertently defaulted back to an Old Testament stereotype, looking to a select few “celebrity oracles” to deliver absolute decrees. This atrophies the everyday believer’s spiritual confidence and creates a culture of codependence.
The Illusion of Universal Performance: At the same time, we force an artificial pressure on everyone to perform. By treating a sovereign spiritual gift as a latent human talent to be trained in “activation workshops,” we have created massive performance fatigue.
What You Will Find Inside
This is not just a critique; it is a collaborative, theological blueprint to help us step off the performance treadmill and reconstruct a healthy foundation for hearing God. When you download the full document, we will dive deep into:
The Yada Frequency: Shifting from a consumer relationship with God’s external acts into an intimate, experiential friendship with His ways.
The Grudem Paradigm: A theological framework showing why New Testament prophecy is actually a fallible human report of a divine revelation—a truth that completely removes the unhealthy pressure of “Thus saith the Lord” platforms.
The Anatomy of an Impression: A practical guide on how a non-verbal divine prompt intersects with a biblically saturated mind.
The Double-Layered Filtering System: The precise “Primary and Secondary Tests” we need to safely weigh and sift prophetic words together in community.
Ultimately, this letter is an invitation to move away from fear and performance, guiding us toward a safe, decentralized, and Christocentric stewardship of God’s voice.
